Top Tips to Avoid a Plumbing Disaster This Christmas

Christmas is a busy time – you’ve got your shopping to finish, a turkey to cook, and not to mention a family to host. Imagine piling a flooded kitchen onto your workload. Plumbing emergencies can be avoided with a little forethought and planning. So dodge that mess with our top tips this Christmas.

Strain It

Buy a strainer for your kitchen sink. This will make sure that no sneaky bits of food find themselves down your pipes. And remember to not pour any oil or grease down your drain. It could harden and cause a blockage.

Keep It Out of the Bath

It might seem like a good idea, but don’t use your laundry sink or bath as an esky. The ice will eventually melt, and you may have a flood on your hands. If you really don’t have anywhere else, pull the plug so the ice can melt down the drain.

Find the Water

Plan ahead and figure out where to turn the water off to your house. You won’t be thinking clearly during a plumbing disaster, and stopping the water from the source could save you thousands in repairs.

Check Your Washing Machine

Christmas is a big day for your washing machine too – especially if you have family staying over. So check that your machine is up to the job. Are there any leaks, cracks or bulging pipes? If the answer is yes, give us a call straight away.

Think Ahead

We don’t want to nag, but regular maintenance of your plumbing is the best way to avoid any plumbing catastrophes during Christmas. It also works out to be more cost-effective during the year. So don’t waste any more time, and book us for inspection.
